Surf's REALLY Up!

Sea, sky, east, west, sea, sky, east, west, etc.... This was the natuaral tendency of the boat in the rather large swells that the wind had created. All this was with a wind blowing from 20 to 25 knots. The day was rock and roll for sure. We guess the waves to have been at 7 feet and the period between waves about 35 feet with breaking crests. If anyone wants an endorsement for the little Tanzer 22, we will provide it. It didn't take us long to be able to keep the boat on course but it was demanding and you couldn't take your eye off the ball for concern of broaching the waves. We took a couple of hours off in Mont St. Louis and got talking to a fisherman who moved out here from the south shore of Montreal about 10 years ago. He loves the area and the money he earns on the boat. It is tough and dangerous work though. Fishermen, as rugged workers, have our respect.

Later in the day, when it calmed down a bit, we went on to Riviere Madelaine where we found a friendly community of open door people and spent the night. The casse croute in the marina is the meeting place for all and we were entertained by a group of middle agers drinking coffee, smoking and trading stories and laughs.

By the way, we wow have a new GPS boat speed record of 13.9 MPH. Not bad for a boat that has a max hull speed capability of 6 knots!
