0640: Motor out of Riviere Madelaine Harbour into mild SW winds, perfect, however, when we were raising the sail, we noticed that the slot stopper in the mast had fallen out during the night. Short panic and a quick search revealed that it had not yet fallen overboard. That saved us another jury rigging. We have already had to replace a couple of shackles that had come loose and lost pieces.
The coast during today's sail is magnificent, if you like high bluffs that drop precipitously into the water. The road is out of sight on the other side of the mountains and there is a real feeling of unblemished wilderness and isolation. The downside of this, in a boat, is that there is no place to hide if something comes up. Our tactic is this situation is to stay well out from shore so that if anything goes wrtong, we have time to fix it before we become tangled in our own aluminum and fibreglass debris on the shore. Sailing wes very sweet today. Continued following winds, not too strong, and sunny weather made it quite pleasant. The high seas persisted however, and they were coming diagonally to our stern. More tiller work kept us warm in the fresh temperatures. We are thinking that it must be nice here in the summer as well.
We pulled into Riviere au Renard at 1315 and found this internet friendly visitor center, so here we are. We are finally headed SE for a change and we are looking forward to the warmer climate of the Baie des Chaleurs in a few days. We hope to connect with a friend in Barachois on the other side of Perce on Saturday, weather willing. Forcasts are calling for rain and winds from the east. Fingers crossed...
Oh yes, we are doing over 90 these days... on the compass. It's nice to be going south!
